Dog Training in Brisbane

All training at Candid Dog Training is delivered one-on-one and follows a clear pathway.

This page covers every available service, how they connect, and what each costs.

There are no hidden fees and no upselling mid-program.

How The Pathway Works

Training begins with a Behavioural Assessment. This establishes what's driving your dog's behaviour, what your goals are, and what training direction is appropriate before any decisions are made.

From there, all dogs enter Training Foundations, a six-session program that builds the skills required for everything that follows. Once Foundations are complete, the next step is determined by your dog's progress and what will create the most meaningful change.

The exception is puppies under six months. They can begin with Puppy Foundations without a prior assessment.

Entry Points

Behavioural Assessment

Puppy Foundations

$220 · 2 hours · One-on-one

The starting point for all training. Not a standard intake session. This is a structured two-hour working session that produces a written report delivered within the week.

The report covers:

  • Background and developmental history

  • Health and lifestyle

  • Current skills

  • Trainer observations with specific threshold and behaviour data

  • Behavioural interpretation

  • Training direction and initial priorities

  • Refined owner goals

A Stage 1 homework document with precise mechanical instructions is delivered separately, also within the week.

This is how training decisions get made clearly and appropriately from the start.

Foundations

Training Foundations - $660 · 6 sessions · One-on-one

Universal entry point for all dogs regardless of age, breed, or behavioural history.

Six one-on-one sessions that build the skills required for all further training. Foundations is not about rushing into advanced work, it's about establishing the understanding and communication that makes everything else possible.

Sessions cover: motivation and reinforcement access, marker systems and clear communication, management and arousal regulation, handling and leash mechanics, and practical skills that transfer to real life.

Progression through Foundations is based on demonstrated readiness, not session count. The pathway forward is confirmed at the end of Foundations based on your dog's progress.

  • Yes. Foundations is the starting point for every dog regardless of age, breed, or history. It's not a formality, it's where the communication system gets built. Everything that follows depends on it.

Post Foundations Pathways

The following pathways are available after Foundations.

Which pathway and how many sessions are confirmed at the end of Foundations based on your dog's demonstrated progress and what will create the most meaningful change.

Reactive Dog Support

$520 · 4 sessions · One-on-one

$780 · 6 sessions · One-on-one

For dogs displaying reactivity, including frustration, aggression and nervousness, or overstimulation in real-world environments.

This pathway works on emotional regulation, threshold management, and building the owner's ability to read, manage, and support their dog through situations that currently trigger a reaction. Or simply, you need to be able to read what's happening before it happens, and know what to do when it does.

Each session builds on the last. You don't move forward until the previous piece is solid. Session count is determined by where your dog is at the end of Foundations, not by a pre-set program.

Single Focus

$130–$390 · 1–3 sessions · One-on-one

Targeted work on a specific skill where a full pathway isn't required. Whether this is appropriate is confirmed at assessment or by prior discussion.

Group Classes

Skill Development

$520 · 4 sessions · One-on-one

$780 · 6 sessions · One-on-one

For dogs that have completed Foundations and are ready to build functional, real-world obedience and life skills.

Covers reliability under distraction, off-leash control, distance and duration on core behaviours, and practical handling skills for everyday situations. The focus is on skills that hold up outside training sessions, in public, off-lead areas, around other people and dogs.

Group classes are currently in development and not yet publicly available.

When launched, options will include Foundations classes, Obedience and Life Skills classes, and Reactivity classes, all capped at small group sizes.

If you'd like to be notified when classes become available, get in touch.

FAQ

  • The next step is determined by your dog's progress at the end of Foundations. You won't be locked into a pathway before we know what your dog actually needs.

  • Post-Foundations pathways are;

    $520 for four sessions or

    $780 for six sessions.

Which option applies is confirmed at the end of Foundations based on your dog's demonstrated readiness.

  • You don't need to figure that out before you start. That's what the assessment and Foundations are for. By the end of Foundations there's a clear picture of where your dog is and what the right next step looks like.

  • Single Focus sessions are available at $130 per hour for one to three sessions. These are for targeted single-skill work in specific circumstances and are not a substitute for the full training pathway. Whether they're appropriate is confirmed at assessment or by prior discussion

  • No. All training is conducted on location in your home, your neighbourhood, and the real environments your dog actually lives in. That's where behaviour needs to hold up, so that's where we train.

  • No. Any trainer who guarantees results is selling you something. What I can tell you is that the training is grounded in behavioural science, structured around your dog's actual needs, and built to create meaningful change. Progress depends on consistency, active participation, and honest application between sessions. That part is on you.
